Kaksi sanaa, en ja tarvitse, ovat pyörineet päässäni viime aikoina. Olen ollut armoton shoppailija. Olen kasvanut siihen, että tylsyyteen, iloon ja suruun voi ostaa jotain kivaa. Itsensä voi palkita ja kannustaa ostamalla jotain, oli se sitten meikki, herkku, vaate tai sisustusasia. Mikäs sen ihanampaa, kun uusi mekko, takki tai suklaalevy.
Viime aikoina olen vasta todella alkanut käsittää, millaisessa yltäkylläisyydessä elämme. Puhelimia puhelimen perään, uusimmat ja muodikkaimmat takit joka keväälle ja syksylle, viidet ihan kivat kengät kesään, joka kerta kun hiukankin tekee mieli herkkuja niin nokka kohti lähikauppaa.
Muovipakkauksia, pusseja, tavaran kuljetuksia maailmalta, päästöjä, lapsityövoimaa, kierrättämättömiä tavaroita. Paljon asioita, jotka tekevät kehityksen olemattomaksi ja joiden vaikutus globaalilla tasolla on huolestuttavan negatiivinen.
Olen boikotoinut jo pitkään kaikkia brändejä, jotka tiedän teettävän lapsityövoimalla vaatteita. Lapsityövoimaa käyttää yllättävän paljon myös laadukkaiksi tuotteiksi mielletyt merkit! Lapsityövoima oli ensimmäinen askel ympäristöystävällisempään osteluuni. Ensin meni halpatavaraketjut boikottiin. Kalliimpia vaatteita joutui harkitsemaan hetken kauemmin. Liikkeistä ei lähtenytkään enää kymmenien vajaan parinkympin tuotteiden kanssa hymyssä suin kohti seuraavia halppisliikkeitä. Nyt jouduin miettimään, kumpi on kivempi mekko vai paita. Kumpaa tarvitsen enemmän. Hetkonen… Tässä kohtaan käsitin sanan tarvita. Enhän minä tarvitse kumpaakaan. Minulla on kaikki mitä tarvitsen. Minulla on pukea koko ystäväpiirini juhliin tai mökille. En minä tarvitse. Mutta minä haluan. Onhan muoti nyt ihan mieletön juttu. Rakastan sitä.
Miten ihanaa oli löytää kirppikset! Ihan kuin olisi aarrejahdissa. Kirppiksiltäkin tuli ensin huti ostoja, sillä kaikki on niin paljon halvempaa kuin liikkeissä. Omatunto ei kuitenkaan hakkaa niin kovaa vastaan, kun tietää ostavansa jo aikaisemmin ostettua. Sitä paitsi, koen yksityishenkilöiden tukemisen kirpparitulojen myötä miellyttävämmäksi kuin valtavien yritysten. Jostain muotilehdestä nappasin hyviä Facebook-kirppiksiä. Niistäkin innostuin, lähinnä selailemaan. Olen hiukan vainoharhainen rahansiirtojen suhteen tuntemattomien kanssa, joten en tykkää ostaa face-kirppiksiltä. Kaikki parhaat löydöt sijaitsevat meinaan Helsingissä, ei Turussa.
Länsimaisella ihmisellä ei ole kuin yksi hyvä syy ostaa halpatyövoimamaassa tehtyjä vaatteita. Se syy on liian pienet tulot. Pienet tulot ja kallis asuminen on Suomessa vähävaraisuuden suurimpia tekijöitä. Isossa kuvassa länsimaisella ihmisellä ei pitäisi olla yhtäkään syytä ostaa muualla tehtyjä vaatteita. Suomi on ollut aina käsityömaa. Täällä osataan valmistaa vaatteita todella hyvin. Lisäksi meillä on nykyiseen hallitukseen asti ollut erittäin laadukas koulutus, jolla ollaan koulutettu mm. muotisuunnittelijoita. En halua yhdenkään ihmisen kuvittelevan, että me länsimaiset ahneet teemme turhamaisuutemme ansiosta jotain hyvää halpatyömaihin, jossa kankaiden parissa työskentelevä ihminen saa alle euron tunti työstään. Toimintamme takia esimerkiksi kaikkialla Afrikassa ei pystytä edistämään omavaraisuutta. Pelkästään sen takia, että meidän verkkokalvoille on iskostettu pieni vesipömppiksen omaava tumma lapsi ilman vaatteita. Tästä johtuen, moni meistä vie halppisketjun viimemalliston vaatteet hyväntekeväisyyteen. Aika ylitseampuva sana toimelle, joka luo hallaa meidän silmien kantamattomissa. Hyväntekeväisyys. Voi pojat. Ja tytöt. Hyväntekeväisyyttä on ostaa eettisesti valmistettu vaate. Tällöin vaatteen hinta on myös huomattavasti kalliimpi. Mekot ovat 200 eurosta ylöspäin. Niitä mekkoja ostellaankin hiukan vähemmän sitten. Mutta se on ympäristöteko! Jos mekko on valmistettu Suomessa käsin. Et tue lapsityövoimaa, et tue halpatyövoimaa, et tue ympäristöpäästöjä etkä kuluta kovin paljon materiaalia, sillä kynnys ostaa kalliita tavaroita on suurempi, kun ostaa halpoja asioita. Varsinaista maailmanpelastamista! Ainoa ongelma on enää se, että meillä Suomessa kovin monella ei ole varaa olla eettinen ja ekologinen. Se on vääryys.
Kun muutin omaan kotiin, asuntoni oli täynnä siellä ennen asuneen naisen huonekaluja. Löysin Ekotorin. Paras asia ikinä! Soitin ja sovin Ekotorin kanssa, pakettiauton hakemaan huonekalut pois ja henkilökunta tuli viemään huonekalut, joita en halunnut säästää. Maksoin epäkunnossa olevien poisviennin, ja he ottivat ilmaiseksi myytäväksi kelpaavat sekä elektroniikkatavarat. En ensisijaisesti halunnut ostaa Ikean huonekaluja. Sillä teho tuotanto. Löysin Tori.fi:n, ihanaa. Niin eettistä. Sieltä löysin samaa sarjaa 3-istuttavan sohvan, jota minulla oli jo 2-istuttavana. Kävimme isäni kanssa hakemassa sohvan nuorelta naiselta, ja tuntui tosi kivalta antaa hänelle hänen pyytämä summa. Paljon paremmalta, kun laittaa se Ikeaan, jossa vähintään kymmenen kassaa vetää 11h päivässä. Löysin Torista myös sohvapöytäni ja kirppikseltä yhden makuuhuoneen lasivalaisimen.
Uskoisin, että jos halpatyömaissa järjestäydyttäisiin vaatimaan länsimaisten tuntipalkkaa, maailmasta tulisi toden teolla parempi paikka. Olen pohtinut asiaa, ja mietin että pitääkö niiden lähes orjien tehdä niin halvalla työtä, jottei heillä olisi varaa ostaa ja kuluttaa. Kulutushan tunnetusti lisää tarjontaa, joka lisää tuotantoa ja se tuhoaa maapallon. Kysyin tätä taannoin Erkki Tuomiojalta, ja hänen vastauksensa rauhoitti minut. Ei, se että ihminen saa työstään kunnon palkan ei tuhoa kulutuksella maapalloa. Silloin saattaisi jopa käydä päinvastoin. Jos jokainen Intialainen kangastehdastyöläinen saisi kuukaudessa vaikka 1000 euroa, pystyisi tämä työläinen päästämään lapsensa kouluun. Koulussa lapsi saa tarvittavan tiedon ja taidon ympäröivästä maailmasta ja mahdollisuuden keksiä jopa uusia innovaatioita tulevaisuuteen, jotta me ei hukuttaisi roinaan. Mielestäni siis maailma pelastettaisiin, antamalla parempaa palkkaa jokaiselle. Muistetaanhan, että me kaikki ollaan yhtä arvokkaita. Osan potentiaali vaan menee hukkaan toisen itsekkyyden takia. Lisäksi tuotanto pienenisi, mutta hinnat nousisi. Ihminen ostaisi mitä tarvitsee, ja yritys pysyy pystyssä ja tekee voittoa eettisesti. win-win.
Olemme hyvin matkalla oikeaan suuntaan asenteissamme kulutusta kohtaan. Vielä on kuitenkin matkaa jäljellä. Toivon, että jokainen alkaa miettiä ennen ostoa sitä matkaa, jonka tuote on kulkenut, mistä se on lähtenyt ja mitä se pieni asia on vaatinut ympäristöltään.
